Of course Cow continued to evolve throughout their career (in their complex improv strategies and with composer Lindsay Cooper), and their 3rd album with Slapp Happy (mentioned above) was another cornerstone - this time in song-form and pretty much unmatched since*. Cow had three strong composers in Frith, Greaves and Hodgkinson – who can all be heard to good effect by listening to their first two albums. Mont Campbell was a strong composer for Egg. For me the key players in this post-Wyatt Soft Machine era and style of music were Henry Cow and Egg.
